Both of these have been alluded to in previous posts, but we are hurtling toward the end of the year (hell-o, November!) when I’ll look back and put together my Favorite New Favorites* of 2016 — the things I most want to not forget to knit someday — and these two have to be properly in the mix, because they’re two of the most covetable sweaters I’ve seen all year:
TOP: Gambier by Lindsay Inouye is a Cowichan-inspired gem and must be a total dream in Hinterland‘s alpaca-rambouillet blend
BOTTOM: Sourcebook Chunky Cardigan by Norah Gaughan (from her must-have “Knitted Cable Sourcebook”) is a cable-lover’s dream, and the shape of that collar is just perfection

I would love to see something like the Gambier cardigan in DK or sport weight. Do you know of any patterns that might fit that description?

Nice! Such perfectly proportioned shawl collars. So happy you shared them. Onto the queue for both. I always feel like I got taken when I knit a sweater with a shawl collar. First I knit a sweater and then I pick up for the collar and knitting and knitting and knitting…and then realize , duh, I am actually knitting a SHAWL onto a sweater, for real.
These look totally do-able and wearable.
So true. When I think about how long Channel is going to take me, I’m thinking of the collar as 1/3 of it — all that half-brioche on little needles, seamed on!
I’ve been enjoying the Norah G cable book and that one above is a real beauty. I love the unusual off-kilter cables in it.
I couldn’t decide how I felt about the cables the first time I saw it — was thinking of plugging in alternates. But the more I look at it, the more taken I am with the oddness of that.
Love shawl collars! I think they make the most beautiful finish on an oversized cardigan. :)
