Before I forget, I want to let you all know I’ve been redoing the Fringe Association boards over on Pinterest. I’ve never been able to keep up with the old “best ___ patterns” boards I set up long, long ago, and thought it would be fun and useful to create a board for each of the series I do here on the blog. So I’m basically — gradually! a handful of posts at a time — repinning almost the whole archive of the blog, pinning series posts into corresponding boards. You can always see any series at glance right here on the site by clicking the linked series title/tag down in the categories and tags links at the very bottom of any post, and the series I post into most often are also linked in the right rail of the blog. But this gives you a way to see any series at a glance over on Pinterest, as well as to follow anything you’re interested in. For example, you can see/follow the Make Your Own Basics board, or the New Favorites board, or whatever floats your boat. I’m only up through the end of 2012 at the moment, so they’ll be filling in gradually over the next couple of weeks. It’s fun to see those old posts resurfacing — there’s so much stuff I still want to knit! So go check that out, and of course please re-pin liberally!

I love the “ethical closet” article. I was going through all my clothes the other day (just did this with my kids’ stuff too since they are in new sizes for summer) and discovered that 1) I didn’t have that much to get rid of and 2) I don’t really need anything new. The second thing is kind of a bummer because I’m excited about making new clothes for myself, even though I don’t really need them. Does that make it unethical?

The sewing kit article – I never would have found this on my own so THANK YOU for sharing. I’ve actually now shared it with some friends who love to “re-do” clothing.
Sounds like the writer at The Atlantic who thinks home sewing machines can be programmed to produce sequined cocktail dresses on demand doesn’t read any maker blogs! I think her argument that mending is more personal than making would be turned on its head if she had taken a whirl around your instagram.
That patience article is SO ACCURATE. I’m going to need to read the ethical closet one, too. I went on a no-clothing-buy and haven’t bought any clothes since February or January. Now things I’ve had for years are starting to wear out and look really really sad. My goal is more handmade but I’m sure the article has some great tips, too!
I just want to say, Fringe Association is one of the most well-written, well-organized and beautiful websites I have the pleasure of reading day to day (and what a bonus–that you post practically everyday). There are, of course, lots of great and wonderful sites out there, but Fringe is my portal to the online fiber world. Thanks for working so hard on this!
