Hey, happy Saturday — just popping in with a quick addendum to Thursday’s official plan for the Anna Vest knitalong. There’s less pattern detail on the Ravelry page than I had realized, so for those who don’t already have the book to refer to, here are the vitals:
YARN
Approximately 520 (603, 688, 774, 873, 968) yd / 476 (552, 630, 708, 799, 886) m worsted-weight yarn
Shown in Thirteen Mile Worsted (100% Organic Wool, 210 yd / 192 m per 100 g skein). Color: Light Gray Heather; 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5) skeins. (See Thursday’s post about a yarn discount from Tolt.)
NEEDLES
Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use needle size necessary to achieve given gauge.
Needle A: Main Fabric
US8 / 5.00mm straight or circular needles; optional DPNs for pocket linings
Needle B: Ribbing
US6 / 4.00mm straight or circular needles (two sizes smaller than Needle A) and 16-in circular for armhole edging
Needle C: Button Band
US5 / 3.70mm straight or double-pointed needles (three sizes smaller than Needle A)
Notions:
2 stitch markers, blunt tapestry needle, 5 18-20mm buttons and matching thread and needle to attach
GAUGE
20 sts / 27 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in Andalusian Stitch with US8 needle
MEASUREMENTS
Womens’ Sizes S (M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X); shown in size M
Chest Circumference: 34 (38, 42, 46, 50, 54) in / 86 (96.5, 106.5, 117, 127, 137) cm
Intended Ease: 1–2 in / 2.5–5 cm for a tailored fit; 4–6 in / 10–15 cm for a slouchier look
The model is wearing the size M/38″ with 3″ of positive ease.
ALSO: I thought the book was available as either a print or ebook, but it turns out the digital version is included with purchase of the print book and not sold separately. My apologies for being misleading/confusing on that point. For those of you concerned about the Canadian conversion rate, there are a couple of Canadian stores that have stocked the book, so check to see if you can order it from them — Bad Anna’s in Vancouver and Beehive in Victoria.
I would have joined this knit along except for the cost of the book. Too bad the pattern in not available separately.

I’ve decided to join, but will be knitting the original vintage waistcoat pattern, rather than the Anna vest. Went to my LYS to pick up yarn today, and am all set to swatch and be ready for mid-February!

neither canadian stores have the book, can only seem to order through tolt and they charge $20usd to ship to canada:(
That’s why I’m knitting the original version that’s free, the one that inspired the Anna Vest pattern. It will give me a very similar vest, but at an affordable cost.

Where did you find the original inspirational version? I love the Anna and am trying to knit one without a pattern but am getting a bit panicky.

I have only seen the digital form of the book and I am waiting for the yarn and book to arrive at this point. The digital book looks wonderful! So interesting to see the process of how hard the farmers, mills, designers all work together for the end result. I feel that purchasing the book and the yarn is an investment but I love the idea of supporting these hard working people. This will be my first attempt of knitting a garment so I am excited to give it a try!
I too would have loved to join the knit along, but the book is just too expensive with far too few really interesting patterns. I’d most happily buy the Anna pattern separately if it were possible. Perhaps I’ll try the vintage pattern but truly, I’m not looking forward to the fiddle and fuss of adapting the pattern in the middle of a tiring February. Ah well. I guess that’s how the (yarn) ball bounces! Lovely vest, btw. Thank you for introducing it.
I probably have more patterns in my library than I will be able to knit in this lifetime, but this book is lovely and obviously filled with more than “just” knitting patterns. Thanks so much for motivating me to make the purchase, and to Anna and the other wonderful contributors who put so much time and effort into what is obviously a labor of love. I’m excited to get a closer look at not only the patterns, but the stories and photos of all of the fiber producers!

I have a question about the neck and armhole shaping. I’m making the medium sized vest. The instructions say to “continue working neck shaping every 4th row a total of 13 times.” (p. 74) Work until piece measures 11.5 in. Is this correct? I’ve knitted 4 sets of 4 rows and I’m already at 12 inches. Where did I go wrong? Thanks for your help.
Right, so you’ll keep going with the neck shaping until you’ve done that 13 times. But at the 11.5″ mark is where you start the armhole shaping at the other edge of the piece. Neck and shoulder shaping are worked concurrently.

Just received the Anna Vest kit from Tolt and I’m very excited about knitting it, but, I’m unfamiliar with the Andalusian and would like instructions for it. Where can I find them? Thank for helping me.
They’ve tucked it into the back of the book with the other abbreviations and techniques and such.
I know it’s to late for the KAL. I would love to make the vest. Any way to purchase just this pattern. Between the yarn and the cost of the book it’s a bit much for my budget.

It’s not too late for the KAL, but the pattern is currently only available in the book.
I really want the pattern for the anna vest. But the postage to new Zealand will be huge. Any other options.
