Is it seriously November right now? I can’t believe how not-far-fetched this picture looks — Marihenny Passible stylishly fending off snow flurries in a chic black cable beanie with a big cheeky pompom. If you’re gonna knit a cable hat right now, obviously I’m gonna think it should be the current Fringe Hatalong hat, Seathwaite by Kate Gagnon Osborn (free pattern right here on Fringe). To make it more like Marihenny’s, you could knit it in The Fibre Co’s Terra in Coalwood; skip the provisional cast-on for a folded rather than grafted brim, and top it off with the biggest pompom you can manage.

The hat is gorgeous and, for some reason, I’m loving pompoms these days!
Just a follow-up to Slotober and all the thoughts it provoked in me….I ordered a jacket last night and kept a few things in mind: 1) looked for a classic style (an updated pea coat), 2) bought the most expensive one I could afford (gulp!), 3) looked for quality materials (100% wool), and 4) tried to buy local (made in the US using wool imported from Italy. It took a while for me to find a jacket that I loved and that met these criteria, and I think the cost was the hardest thing to get used to, but, honestly, I can’t wait to get it in the mail later this week! Thanks for all the inspiration!

Pompoms are a great way to use up odds and ends. I keep a box of them and put them on packages instead of bows. I think I got that idea from Joelle Hoverson. Thank you, Joelle!
Great hat & I also love her scarf!! It looks like indigo to my (not very knowledgeable) eye. Does anyone have ideas on finding a similar one?
