After getting that little preview of winter at Rhinebeck last week and having the temperatures finally drop into the 60s here in Nashville this week (along with the loveliest soft fall rain), I’m beginning to dream about cozying up in a big ol’ wooly pullover. Either of these would do nicely:
TOP: Onske by Olga Buraya-Kefelian is Olga’s answer to the sweater that broke the Internet, designed for Woolfolk’s new superbulky Hygge. I personally would knit it more oversized and at a tighter gauge, but I really want this sweater!
BOTTOM: Butte by Pam Allen is designed for bulky-weight Quince and Co Puffin. I love a good yoke sweater (am doing a lot of lopi fantasizing these days as well) and like that this one combines a basketweave yoke with reverse stockinette body.
Seamless and big-gauged, either one would knit up in a heartbeat.

Love Onske, just wish I didn’t have to buy the whole booklet just for the one pattern. Also, what is your experience with single ply bulky yarns in a garment that is going to get a lot of wear?
I should mention that Woolfolk Hygge yarn is a chain yarn, not single ply. It’s a silk core yarn that has fibers of super baby alpaca and ultimate merino® spun into it and then turned into a chain. And to join this yarn, you just need to treat it as an i-cord and graft 2 ends of the skeins together for completely knot-free garment!
I knit a sweater for my son a couple of years ago-very similar to the Butte. It was an Ann Bud pattern which used worsted weight. It had basket weave pattern in the top and stockinette in the bottom of the sweater. I can’t wait until he has outgrown it so I can adopt it! :) http://www.ravelry.com/projects/VTGrandViewFarm/guston
I have a pile of my Romney yarn left that I had spun into a bulky weight. I have been waiting for the right pattern to come along to knit with it. I will add this to my list to consider!

Plus the pop of little pocket color. It looks lke a pattern that one could add a cable too or knit rev. stockinette as well. I have been liking the “halo” from alpaca mixes like Plymouth baby alpaca grande yarn.

I’ve got a pile of super bulky that I’ve been going back and forth on what I want to make out of it. I figure it will be super quick and satisfying but there are just too many patterns to pick from!
