Soooo, the thrilling event I alluded to the other day is that we’ve been shopping for a house and appear to have found one! By which I mean we put in an offer the other night and it was accepted. Now — after stressful weeks of endless phone calls and emails and documents downloaded and uploaded and faxed and contested (followed by the sad march through a dozen wrong houses before finding the right one) — the really hectic part begins. If you’ve ever bought a house before, you know it’s a full-time job, and with Fringe Association and Fringe Supply Co., I already have two full-time jobs on my hands. So this is me giving fair notice that blogging might not be daily for the next few weeks. A day without blogging is, for me, like a day without air so hopefully any gaps will be few and far between. But I hope you’ll understand if I’m not here every single weekday like usual — at least until the crashing waves of e-docs have ebbed and the inspectors have tendered their reports.
For now I’m wishing a safe and sparkly 4th of July to those of you in the US, and a very happy weekend to the rest of you! I WILL see you next week—

My sister and I just bought a house together one year ago. I feel for you – and yet I am very happy for you. We are so happy with our place… but it took a lot of time, work, and patience to get here – one year later – with everything done as we wanted. Congratulations, Karen! We just went through the whole process here in Portland, and the offer part was the most emotionally tense for us. So, congrats on THAT being over :). The great part is that now they can’t back down, but if anything majorly wrong comes up during inspections you can, or your realtor can negotiate. FINGERS CROSSED it all goes well and you’re in your new home soon! Can you believe it? It IS possible… we all just have to leave the Bay Area, is all.
CONGRATULATIONS on the purchase of your new home, Karen! I am thrilled for you. If you thought ‘the deal’ was stressful, make certain you don’t pack and move that way.
Moving an ‘organized’ home can be a snap. Put each organized part in a box (or boxes) and give the box(es) the same number. Keep a note of where each box and corresponding number came from. If the contents are a priority to unpack, make a note of that. You’d be surprised how ‘tired’ can affect your thinking.
Throughout the whole packing process, keep the things you NEED everyday in one obvious location in each room they are used. Your last packing will be these things.
Each day you are in the packing, moving, unpacking process, FORCE yourselves to take an hour break and eat a good lunch together. Just the act of eating together normally will reset your body and mind and send you back to work refreshed.
In the meantime, I’m sure I speak for all your family, friends and readers… however long it takes, we will be here waiting for your return.
