There have been some overwrought cable sweaters showing up in the Pre-Fall 2014 collections — I’m looking at you Carven — but none kookier than the one-armed sweater at Thakoon, which they liked so much they incorporated it into multiple looks. (When I wore my one-armed Acer to the Top of the Hyatt in San Diego recently, I had no idea I was on trend.) I fear the army of knock-offs this might inspire, but on the other hand, it could be a welcome sight to knitters with Second Sleeve Syndrome!
There is also a two-sleeved version, thankfully. The cablework falls somewhere between inventive and strained — I’m on the fence, but leaning toward like. Actually, the longer I look at this, the more I find myself falling under the spell of the one-armed version.
Speaking of cables and sleeves, apart from the Pepto pink, I’m also rather fond of the cable-sleeved sweater at See by Chloé.

I like the idea of the cables on the sleeves only, on the Chloe sweater. Looks like you could adapt this to your top down sweater pattern.

As much as I like it, I could never actually wear a sweater like this. I’m always the opposite — looking at every cable sweater and imagining the arms in plain stockinette. I tend to look like a linebacker in cabled sleeves.

I love the cables. I’d love to see someone come up with a chart! As for one-armed sweaters…. Thakoon forgot that the whole point of sweaters is to keep people like me warm.
I love asymmetrical but this doesn’t do it for me – or the busy pattern. (I’m with Ruth on staying warm.) I do love the cable up the sleeves on the Chloe pink, oh yes.

This is the stupidest idea I’ve ever seen for a sweater. Like the cables, but why should one arm be warm and the other freeze? Stupid.
Both of my arms typically get cold at the same time.

Not my thing but hey, if people didn’t take risks in fashion then we wouldn’t have open backs or crop tops! I’m intrigued by the idea of reworking the basic sweater, but to me these sweaters look unfinished and heavy.
I’m totally with you on the risk taking, AND the fact that these look unfinished. That’s why they look odd – not just like a design feature that is not my cup of tea.

This would definitely make anyone feel better if they decide not to finish knitting a second sleeve! I would probably not wear a sweater like that because I would keep attempting to pull on a sleeve that doesn’t exist. Also in the winter time, I need all the warmth I can get :).
I’m thinking it’s their take on the Katniss “cowl”…it makes no sense in real life, where the rest of us actually live.
Hmmm…it looks just like an unfinished sweater to me… this what happen when designers get bored and silly.
I think this trend has been evolving more and more as well, but from the versatile point of you.. I don’t think they would stick. Back in 2008 I even designed one, but never published it because even though it showcased the yarn beautifully it was for the rare few who would be able to pull it off.
